  • Watercolor paper or drawing paper
  • Round and flat brushes
  • a small cup of water
  • Newspaper for under your work
  • For this lesson, I used pencils by Caran d’Ache Supracolor Soft Aquarelle, Strathmore cold press paper, and artist loft brushes. I encourage you to experiment with different materials to learn the different outcomes you can achieve with each product.

Watercolor Pencil Techniques #2

In today’s lesson, you will learn crayon resist, tape masking, wet paper, and stippling with watercolor pencil.

For this lesson, you will need any brand of watercolor pencils, watercolor paper or drawing paper, round and flat brushes, and a small cup of water. For this lesson, I used pencils by Caran d’Ache Supracolor Soft Aquarelle, Strathmore cold press paper, painters tape, crayons, and artist loft brushes. Watercolor Paint with Salt, Cinnamon & Household items.

In this lesson, you will draw a clownfish. I used a drawing reference on how to draw a clownfish. You will then apply watercolor paint techniques; sprinkle salt, sprinkle cinnamon, crayon resist, and blending colors. You could also use watercolor pencils instead of watercolor paint.

  • Drawing paper or watercolor paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Crayons
  • Cotton swabs
  • Brushes
  • Watercolor paints or watercolor pencils
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon
